The Belgium border is about 20 miles from our house. Needless to say we stop in quite often.  There is a city called Turnout where I do my big grocery shopping once a month.  The GB Maxi store has so many more products than its Dutch counterparts.  What the kids like about the store is it has American cereal. Whoopee!!!  The only down side about Belgium is that it is hard to get money.  We have had several encounters where their local ATMs would not accept our Dutch bank card or VISA cards.  That really sucked. To be hungry or thirsty and not be able to buy anything.  So if you travel to Belgium get some Belgium Francs before you cross the border.

Bouillon   We stumbled upon Bouillon in the Spring.  What a beautiful village.  Bouillon is located in the Ardennes Forest region in the southern part of Belgium.  While there we visited a 10th century castle which belonged to Godfried of Bouillon. The falcons were quite hungry that day and swooped very close to the crowd.  The sense of history really came alive in this village.

Brugge is city dating back to medieval times.  It was the center of Medieval Europe.  Brugge has been beautifully restored and as one can guess is heavily visited.  We went the week after Christmas with Jenny Green who came to visit us.  We highly recommend the city but don't use the public transportation.  We got on the wrong bus and ended up in a corn field.  In our halting Dutch, we tried to explain that we needed to get to the train station.  He made us pay again for the ride back into town and wasn't very happy with us.

Ieper Todd went to a road rally with his friend, Christophe.  While following the rally all day, Todd and Chris had time to visit the trappist abbey of St. Sixtus,  for the best beer in the world. (At least according to Todd.)
