This is pretty typical housing in the Netherlands.  Our house is called a twee onder een kap or two under one roof.  It was built in 1990.  We own the right half of the building.  Most Dutch live in row houses or twee kappers because housing and land is very expensive.

Outside Shots This is the front and back of our house in the Netherlands.  We are located in Son en Brueghel, a village north of Eindhoven, NL.

Dining/Living areas Here are pictures of our first floor. On this floor the living area, kitchen and bijkeuken (mudroom) are located.  We have black slate floors which are heated.  Very nice in the winter. The living area is shaped like a "L"  These pictures were taken after we moved in September '98.  If you know me well, you can guess that the room has been rearranged several times since then.

Kitchen  The kitchen is probably the best feature in the house. We have a Bosch combination stove/grill/microwave in the right corner of the picture.  The counters are granite which is great for pastry making. When the sun is actually out the skylight in the kitchen makes the room really bright. The refrigerator is in keeping with Dutch standards.  It is about 3/12 feet tall and 2 feet wide.  It took some getting used to.  One finds that shopping at the grocery store is almost a daily event.  The bijkeuken or mudroom is off from the kitchen.  It's where the freezer is located.  It is also our storage and coat rack.
