In the summer of '99 we took a camping trip to Denmark, Sweden and Norway.  It was probably the best vacation we have ever had.  The countries are full of history, natural beauty and wonderful people.  And contrary to popular belief, Scandinavia is quite affordable.  The exchange rate was about 8 kroners to the dollar or 4 K to the Dutch Guilder.

Sweden reminded us so much of home (Wisconsin, USA) that we didn't want to leave.

The houses were made out of wood.  Towns had four cornered intersections with a church, a grocery store and two bars. (So much like home)

We spent about a week camping and canoeing in the Dalsland and Varmland provinces of Sweden.  We hired a canoe and spent three days and two nights on our own island.  The weather was fantastic as you can tell by the pictures.  Temperatures during the day were in the 80s.

After canoeing, we headed to Norway for a few days.  We came back to Sweden and camped a few more nights before heading home.  The last night in Sweden we spent in Helsingborg just a literal jump across the water to Helsingor, Denmark or 20 minute ferry ride.

In a couple of years there will be a 10  mile long bridge built across the channel connecting Denmark and Sweden.  It will make travel even easier to Scandinavia.
